Gender transformation is possible in every context, from the most repressive to the most progressive society or situation. However, what is transformative in one context may not be transformative in another.
There are many approaches to gender transformative health promotion. Elements of gender transformative health promotion may include: challenging traditional gender norms, promoting critical thinking, supporting women’s economic empowerment, engaging men in women’s health issues, using a gender-synchronized approach, and systemic level advocacy.
