Sometimes planning starts with naming an issue. Health promotion specialists, health system planners and others interested in health promotion may approaching gender-transformative health promotion on a specific issue that may be more prevalent in women, increasing in prevalence, more serious or unique to women, or have differing risk factors or associated risks for women.
Examples:

  • Specific illnesses or diseases such as heart disease, diabetes, fibromyalgia
  • Practices and behaviours such as tobacco or alcohol use
  • Social gendered conditions such as care-giving and/or overwork
